Shere-Khan

SHERE-KHAN, d.o.b. 9/24/11 (Jungle Book litter)

Shere-Khan was born of the Dakari x GSD bitch breeding.  He has been kept behind as a potential stud for use as future Ta-Kari foundation stock.

Shere-Khan is developing nicely and is what I was hoping for in many ways conformationally... He is lean and lanky and starting get get leggy.  He has a long, straight tail (yay!) and big feet.  His head is more of the GSD head (larger ears, wider muzzle) and he has rounder, darker eyes... but I believe he will contribute to our lines what we are looking for and giving us more diversity in our breeding program.  (He will be continually monitored as to growth and health tested for potential future stud use with Ta-Kari stock.)  His ears have finally be consistently up since about 6 1/2 months.

Temperamentally he is INCREDIBLE... He is such a sweet boy, and loves attention and affection.  He is very laid back (which is exactly what I expected with his breeding) and is content to be at his humans' feet.  He is low in the pack hierarchy with no aggressive tendencies.  He is handler sensitive and submissive and very willing to please.  And yes, very smart.

As a puppy, he was the first of his litter to paper-train and consistently hit!  He was crate-trained at 7 weeks.  He is house-trained as well.... One day I just picked the paper up, and he's not messed in the house ever.  He has been left for 3-4 hours at a time in the house and has never messed.  [His father Dakari was just like that.]  He is up to date on shots and is microchipped.  Still needs help with carsickness.  Frown

As with the rest of my pack, he is raw fed and LOVES mealtime!!!!  He is not a picky eater at all Smile

He really is such a good boy... I am very happy with him.

UPDATE 4/30/12 --- I decided to rehome Shere-Khan but keep him intact for potential stud use.  He has found a wonderful home in Utah.  The arrangement is that he will be cared for as if he were here with us, and after evaluation and health testing, if it is decided he will be used as a stud, he will return to Colorado temporarily around breeding times.

I am ecstatic with the home he has found.  Shere-Khan is what I hoped for with the outcross GSD breeding.  And he is the perfect companion dog for Jason.  Having had Shere-Khan here with the pack until just shy of six months, I was able to watch him develop temperamentally.  Being the perfect  cross of his parents, I knew he would make someone a phenomenal dog.  And Jason is just as happy.  (See Jason's testimonial below.)

Being only about 10 hours away (Salt Lake City) and with Jason having friends/family in the Denver area, we look forward to being able to see Shere-Khan throughout his lifetime.  He really is a good boy, and he's missed around here... but has his forever home.
