Ta-Kari Tamaskans was one of the first registered Tamaskan breeders in the U.S. Our kennel
name was formed out of the names of our two foundation dogs that will be used for expanding our Aatu Tamaskan lines in the
US (Takeia and Dakari).
Takeia is out of
the first Tamaskan litter born in the US, and Dakari arrived to us in February 2009 from Scotland, introducing a new line
which will give our breeders more options in the US.
For 16 months, I was involved in various capacities
with the National Tamaskan Club of America under the TDR. As a result, I was closely involved in many of the 'behind
the scenes' happenings of the TDR. Having resigned from both the TDR and NTCA, I am a co-founder
of the Tamaskan Breeders Association. I am very excited about what has been implemented by our founding members
and member breeders to insure and protect the future, welfare and integrity of the Aatu Tamaskan. I am thrilled to be
affiliated with breeders (current and future) committed to the BEST for our dogs and purchasers. The purpose of the
Tamaskan Breeders Association is to work with those breeders who are sincerely interested in seeing the breed flourish by
adhering to a higher standard of breeding practices through honesty, integrity, forthrightness and full disclosure.
Ta-Kari Tamaskans is committed to superior breeding practices and all-around excellence for our dogs
and purchasers. This is a partnership with those who wish to see the Aatu Tamaskan thrive, and will be an ongoing educational
process so that we can all be the best breeders possible. We will not compromise ethics or integrity, and any such displays
of full forthrightness will not be tolerated.
OUR MOTTO: Honesty, education, and integrity ... That is a guarantee!

MY LOVE OF WOLVES ... AND NOW, THE AATU TAMASKAN
As a wolf advocate, my dream has always been to own a wolf. However, understanding how unfair it would be to
try to "domesticate" such an animal, especially in a continued environment of ignorance about wolves (that's
why there are so many sanctuaries and killings of wolves - don't get me started!), I set out on a search to find something
comparable, a dog with the look of a wolf, without the wolf content. I like
big dogs, not the yip-yap lap dogs. So, the Arctic breeds (Husky, Malamute, etc.) were the obvious choices. But,
their independence is something that made me nervous (I see so many winding up in shelters). Finally, in spring 2007,
while searching another breed, I came across the Tamaskan, and it was, as they say, "love at first sight".
Timing is also everything.
And, with perfect timing, I was able to fly back to NJ to visit family in August 2007, and drive to NY to pick up my girl,
Takeia, out of the very first US litter. Takeia and Dakari will be part of the foundation dogs used in the furtherance
of the Aatu Tamaskan in the US.
Now, through the Tamaskan Breeders Association, I am able
to work with others focused on honesty, education, integrity and improvement of the breed through superior breeding practices
and the highest of ethical standards.
