BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS = PLACEMENT: Placement
of our Ta-Kari puppies is not just a one time deal. We believe in lifetime relationships, as our interest in our puppies
and their welfare will continue throughout their lives. We will ask a lot of questions, and expect a lot of questions
to be asked of us, to ensure the pup receives the right and best home possible. I expect anyone interested in purchasing
a future puppy to start communication now, even if the time for adoption is some time off. Although all homes and purchasers
have not yet been determined as of yet, I do want and need time to get to know our purchasers, and will not just place a puppy
last minute with someone that waited to communicate until the very end. Our puppy purchase contract will also provide that our Tamaskans are
not to be arbitrarily re-homed at any time. Rather, should our purchasers at any time during the pup's life experience
circumstances where they can no longer keep the dog, the animal is to be returned to us, or special written permission received
by Ta-Kari for the owner to re-home the animal after approving the new owner's home.
FOLLOW UP: We will check in to inquire of the pup, its adjustment to its
new home, its health, etc. Again, this is a lifetime relationship, not just a sale and purchase. Our contract
will also provide that any change in contact information must be provided to Ta-Kari within 14 days so that our purchase records
can remain current and contact not be impeded.
HEALTH GUARANTEE: We also stand by the quality of our animals. We will provide a two-year written
guarantee on the health of the pup, for certain things, and a lifetime guarantee on temperament and genetic disorders.
(The purchaser does have to share in the responsibility of the animal and its care.) However, for that guarantee to
remain in effect, I do have some requirements, including feeding protocols. While I encourage but cannot force raw feeding,
I will suggest the feeding of certain higher quality kibble (not the kind you can find in any store or WalMart) to feed and
require it for the pup. If a poor quality kibble is provided, the health guarantee will be voided, as a poor quality
food can diminish the quality and health of the pup. The health of the pup is a combination of Nature and Nurture.
However, in the event of either raw feeding
or the recommended kibble, should it be found and documented by veterinary exam that the pup suffers from a genetic abnormality
or condition, and after such diagnosis the owner wishes to return the pup, we will provide a replacement pup of same
or similar quality out of a future litter. Appropriate veterinarian documentation must be received and the diagnosis
documented by a medical professional. My contract goes into full detail about these issues. Unfortunately, an
immediately monetary refund (prorated up to 24 months) may not be possible.
SPAY/NEUTER OR BREED: Before you take your puppy home, we will have determined if
you are going to keep the dog as a pet only, or if you are going to breed (or keep a male intact for stud service if approved).
(There is a process to go through in order to become an approved breeding home, and becoming a registered breeder is not just
a matter of "signing up". So, if you are interested in becoming a breeder please let me know immediately.)
Those that are not interested in breeding will sign an agreement to have their pet spayed/neutered within a specific time
frame, and copies of the vet records of the procedure must be provided to Ta-Kari within the allotted time frame.
OUR PUPS: It is my full intention and goal to work with the puppies from the first few days
until they leave for their new home so that they are used to being handled, socialized, etc.
I do ENS exercises from Day 3-16; they are held repeatedly by various family members and close friends (to get them used to men and women);
their nails are clipped as much as possible to desensitize them, and their paws and legs handled repeatedly.
They are exposed to a variety of surfaces, sounds, people,
rooms, etc. in accordance with the Puppy Rules of 7.
They will have
been wormed at 2, 4, 6, 7 & 8 weeks, and have received their vaccinations and other recommended or appropriate treatments.
You will receive their health record documenting their medical history. You will also receive a mini notebook with all
the notes taken for the first 8 weeks of the puppies life.
Puppies will also undergo temperament testing using the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test in order to ensure proper placement with suitable adopters.
But, remember, I can start it, but you must continue it. Socialization and exposure
to different environments by you is crucial.
Our pups will also be micro-chipped, and any rear dewclaws removed (typically they don't
have them on the rear legs). I would also be happy to have my vet take care of anything else the purchaser would like
taken care of (removal of front dewclaws, etc.) at the pre-paid cost of the purchaser so these are not issues the purchaser
has to focus on getting done when they get their new pup home. Of course, all pups will also have the age appropriate
veterinarian care and shots. (If a puppy is shipped, the appropriate vet exam will be at the cost of the purchaser.)
All costs in association with shipping must be prepaid by the adopter at least 10 days prior to scheduled shipment.
Additionally, for anyone near or willing to
travel to the Colorado Springs area, I will provide coupons for half-off training classes at Colorado Springs All Breed Rescue.
